School of Fish at PCM

Exploring Underwater Ecosystems Through Paper Art

Raining down in cascades of color and shimmer, the School of Fish installation hangs on display in the Maker Studio at the Providence Children’s Museum. The origami-based installation was developed with the idea of exploring underwater ecosystems through paper art.

This piece is an extension of the program Aurora created during her summer 2021 internship at PCM. Her program, Exploring Underwater Ecosystems Through Paper Art,  hosted museum visitors of all ages and invited them to explore how humans impact the ocean and then create their own interpretations of sealife through paper art. This approach allowed children to make connections in their own lives with the ocean and environmental sustainability concepts. School of Fish is an imagined and idealized version of the ocean and symbolizes bringing it back to life with childlike imagination.
